Jerry Lee Lewis (CD1, Tk7)
Great Balls of Fire (1957)

This performance is another example of early rock and roll. The rhythm section uses more stop time activity than a regular blues performance. The back beat is obvious as in Tutti Frutti. However, this is not a blues but an AABA song form. The B contrasts the A sections harmonically and melodically. The standard AABA form is usually 32 measures total. This particular song has an extended B section (four additional measures) which is the same stop time that begins the song. This song plays the modified form two times. This modification is an interesting hook in this song adding a little complexity to what sounds like a simple song.
